We’re thrilled to reveal that the 86 finalist garments have been selected for the 2025 World of WearableArt Competition. Created by 100 designers from 17 countries, these extraordinary works of wearable art will take the stage in Wellington this spring.

This Year’s Finalist Designers

From first-time entrants to long-term WOW designers, this year’s finalists range in age from 19 to 81.

In the mix are 36 New Zealand designers, including two from Timaru and three from Taranaki. The full list of finalist designers will be announced on our website in the coming weeks.

Sarah Nathan, WOW’s Head of Competition, says the judging process to select the finalist garments was as difficult as ever.

“The standard of entries that arrive from around Aotearoa and the world is always extraordinary. This year the level of artistry, artisanal skills and the range of materials used by our finalists is simply phenomenal.”

She says she was particularly delighted by the variety of materials used by 2025’s designers, with garments crafted from everything from coffee capsules and can pull-tabs to boat sails, buckets and gumboots set to take the stage.

A Riot of Colour, Quirk and Curiosity

The three special section themes for 2025: Myths & Legends, Air, and Neon have resulted in a riot of colour, quirk and curiosity.

“Every year the WOW Show is completely different and this year it’s all about uplifting our audience at a time when we all need it. The 2025 WOW Show finalists have brought an exquisite line-up of wearable art that beautifully embody the spirit we had hoped the show would convey,” Sarah says.

See the Finalists Come to Life

The 2025 WOW Show: RISE takes flight at the TSB Arena in Wellington from 18 September to 5 October. Around 60,000 attendees will witness the finalist garments brought to life on stage in Aotearoa’s largest theatrical production.

Many of the finalist designers will travel to Wellington to attend networking events and the annual Awards Night they describe as ‘the Oscars of wearable art’, where the winners of over NZD $200,000 in prizes will be announced.

While shows are starting to sell out, there are still plenty of great seats available, including at the Awards Night, weeknights and Sundays. Don't miss out, book your tickets today!
