The World of WearableArt Awards have bedazzled audiences in New Zealand with their magic and ingenuity for over 30 years. What began in 1987 as a small local competition has grown to become WOW, a theatrical spectacle and magnet for extraordinary talent from around the world.
World of WearableArt (WOW)
WOW is an internationally renowned design competition that attracts entries from over 40 countries. Anything that is wearable art can find a place on the stage, as long as it is original, innovative and well executed.
For three weeks every year, WOW showcases the best of these creations in a spectacular show that takes over New Zealand’s vibrant capital city of Wellington in an explosion of creativity. This year around 60,000 people will see the show.

Welcome to our world. Come and be a part of it.
In 2020, Show Director Malia Johnston is back, teaming up with more creatives and guest artists than ever before who are crafting a show which will be a true explosion of multiple artforms. Expect to journey through a world inspired by the Elizabethan Era, find yourself mesmerised as the stage explodes in a visual symphony of colour in the Monochromatic world, and be amazed as we see the human body used as an architectural canvas in the Architecture Section. Sitting alongside these worlds are three other distinct sections: Avant-garde, Aotearoa and Open. This year, enter another world and lose yourself in the unmissable 2020 WOW Show.
