The people have voted and Knight Of Fire by first time entrants Maria Tsopanaki and Dimitri Mavinis from the United Kingdom has been named winner of The Breeze People’s Choice Award in the 2015 World of WearableArt Awards Show.
A striking red garment, Knight Of Fire was entered in the Creative Excellence Section: Architecture and WOWed the crowds with its stunning reflective presence on stage. The garment is made from neoprene, mesh, acrylic mirrors and metal rings and is inspired by hi tech modern architecture such as the mirrored and glass buildings designed by Norman Foster and Denis Laming.
The London-based design duo were thrilled to receive this prize. ”What a lovely surprise. This must be the most important prize when it comes from the people, we are so humbled and pleased to hear that.”
WOW Founder, Dame Suzie Moncrieff was very impressed with the garment. “Knight Of Fire had a very strong stage presence and it definitely made an impact. The high standard of entries this year are a testament to the outstanding talent of our designers. The innovation and creativity in each garment, the wide range of materials used and the workmanship is truly inspirational.”
Second place for The Breeze People’s Choice Award went to U Brighten My Day by Sue Cederman of New Zealand, an entry in the Children’s Section: Imaginary Friends. Third place was awarded to Tinker by Jeff Thomson also of New Zealand and this garment was also awarded first place in the Open Section and Winner of the New Zealand Design Award.
