World of WearableArt™, in partnership with Cirque du Soleil, is pleased to announce a new award open to finalists in the 2015 World of WearableArt™ (WOW®) Awards Show.

The 2015 Performance Art Costume Award will be presented to an entry that ‘could dwell in the spectacular & magical world of the circus’.

The winner of the award will receive NZ$5000 in prize money, plus flights and accommodation for a one month

internship at the world famous Cirque du Soleil International Headquarters in Montreal, Canada. The internship will need to be completed prior to August 2016 and the winning designer will need to satisfy the legal requirements of the Canadian immigration Department.

The award will be judged and presented by Benoit Mathieu, Vice President of Costumes and Creative Spaces for Cirque du Soleil who will attend the 2015 WOW Awards show on Friday 25 September 2015 in Wellington, New Zealand.

WOW Founder Dame Suzie Moncrieff is thrilled to be able to offer this prize as part of the WOW Awards Show, “We are constantly working to offer exciting and relevant prizes and this partnership with Cirque du Soleil more than meets this criteria. To win this internship could literally be a life changing opportunity for a WOW designer.”

Although the organisations are located on opposite sides of the globe Benoit Mathieu of Cirque du Soleil believes the strong creativity and innovation that is the basis for both organisations makes them an obvious fit.

“Both Cirque du Soleil and WOW are producers of highly creative performance and there is a synergy in the skill set required for both. We are very happy to offer this internship to a WOW® Finalist and are excited to see what talent we might discover in the process.”

World of Wearableart™ Limited

The World of WearableArt™ Awards Show, known as WOW®, is New Zealand’s largest arts show. At the core of WOW® is an international design competition that attracts hundreds of entries from all over the world.

The annual Awards Show presents the finalist garments in a theatrical extravaganza that collides at the intersection of fashion and art bringing these incredible garments to life.

WOW® is best described as a glorious rebellion against the mundane, a choreographed collision where fantasy meets reality and dreams merge with nightmares. There is no narration and no language barriers.

Designers come from all occupations as WOW® gives designers the opportunity to be innovative, original and not bound by the constraints of commercialism. The only limit is their imagination.
