Demand for 2004 Montana WOW™ Award Tickets Already High

Preferential bookings are already heavy for the 2004 Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards in Nelson in September.

Preferential bookings went on sale only days ago, and already the Opening performance on Friday September 10 is sold out. On line sales will be available at www.worldofwearableart.com from March 1 or by contacting World of WearableArt for Fax or mail order bookings. Counter sales will be available from WOW® & CC on April 15.

Travel packages including air fares, accommodation and show tickets for all performances are available from Air New Zealand or Nelson Tourism Services.

WOW® Chief Executive, Gabrielle Hervey says following the success of the new six night, two weekend season for the first time last year, the show’s season has again been extended to a total of seven performances. Available tickets will increase by 2500 – bringing the total to more than 17,500. The Awards will be held at Nelson’s largest venue, the Trafalgar Centre on September 10, 11, 12 and 16,17, 18, 19.

Ms Hervey says despite the season extension over two weekends last year, there was still a huge demand for tickets which could not be met. “After the shows finished we took the opportunity to survey our cast and crew about the prospect of another extension, and the answer was a resounding “Yes”. It is testament to the incredible opportunity that the Show provides that the cast and crew want to take on another night.”

2003 also saw the first independent Economic Impact study undertaken to gauge economic benefits from the Montana WOW® Awards to the Nelson region and New Zealand. The Wellington based company McDermott Miller, reported the direct spend in New Zealand over the two weekend Montana WOW® Awards season was $10.5 m and the Nelson/Tasman region was $6.5m. It also showed 60% of the audience came from outside the Nelson region.

“The Montana WOW® Awards are firmly entrenched in New Zealand’s arts calendar as a ‘must see’ event” Ms Hervey says “ we are looking forward to showcasing this creativity to an even wider audience this year.”
