People’s Choice Close to Judges in 2003 Montana WOW® Awards

The public has voted, and the first ever Fish Bizarre People’s Choice Award in the 2003 Montana WOW® Awards has given the thumbs up to the runner up from the Judges selection.

Oracle – designed by Cathy “Tree” Harris of Wellington won the Latitude Nelson Highly commended award in the Montana WOW® Awards, and now the public has promoted the entry to the Fish Bizarre Peoples Choice Supreme Montana WOW® Award winner.

Oracle was also the winner of this year’s Air New Zealand Oceania section.

More than 2100 public votes were made, with Oracle taking the lion’s share with 325.

WOW® Marketing Manager, Donna Ching, says the vote represents 12% of the audience which saw the shows in Nelson over the past two weekends, and is a wonderful result for an inaugural Award.

“It was always going to be interesting to see how close the people’s choice came to the Judges, as they were looking for certain criteria, whereas the public simply know what they like, without having to meet a formula.”

The winner of the People’s Choice was Irene Beaven of Tauranga, who wins $500 cash and two premium tickets to the 2004 Montana WOW® Awards in Nelson next September. This year was Ms Beaven’s first WOW show, and she says she was so enthralled she was planning on returning next year as well, and she’s thrilled to know she’ll definitely be back

Oracle’s designer wins $500, and the model who wore the creation, 14 year old Jessie Lorriane of Nelson, wins a weekend at Bellbird Lodge at Kaiteriteri.

Ms Ching says the Fish Bizarre People’s Choice award has also given an insight into why people chose particular entries. “We asked why they liked their chosen garment, and many of the comments were good constructive feedback we can now give back to the designers.”
