The largest New Zealand arts competition is turning its eye towards the talent of Australian WearableArt™ designers. The Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show (WOW®), which last year received 15 entries from Australia, is looking to encourage further entries from across the Tasman. Competition director Heather Palmer and Education Liaison Esme Palliser will be touring Australia to meet artists and designers interested in finding out more about this pinnacle WearableArt event.
Heather Palmer, whose sister Suzie Moncrieff founded the WOW® concept, has been with the Awards Show since it began in 1987. She has seen it grow from a show in a leaky tent with an audience of 200, to one of New Zealand’s major events in the creative capital of Wellington. Designs which are selected to perform onstage at the Montana WOW® Awards will be seen by over 30,000 people.
Heather is delighted to be visiting Australia to introduce the country’s finest artists and designers to the WearableArt concept. ‘WearableArt is an art form that anyone can create’ states Heather, ‘and with such an abundance of talented artists in Australia I hope we can encourage more to enter our show’. Benefits to designers who succeed in the Montana WOW® Awards Show include over NZ$100,000 worth of prizes and international media profile.
Heather and Esme will be in Australia from the 19th February and will spend their time visiting tertiary institutes and design schools. They will also hold 3 functions in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra that are open to anyone interested in designing a WearableArt™ garment.
