Blow Me breezes through to win The Dominion Post People's Choice Award

The public has voted, and The Dominion Post People’s Choice Award in the 2006 Montana WOW® Awards has given the thumbs up to a special award winner.

‘Blow Me’ – designed by Wendy Burton and Patrick Duffy was Runner Up in the American Express Open Section and winner of the Mainpower WOW® Factor Award. The Mainpower WOW® Factor Award is granted by Suzie Moncrieff, founder and director of WOW® and recognises the garment which best captures the WOW® factor.

2400 public votes were cast, with Blow Me taking the lion’s share with 388. ‘Fluoressence’ by Susan Holmes was runner up with 276 votes.

The winner of the People’s Choice was Daphine Carvello of Wellington, who wins a trip to Nelson to visit the World of WearableArt™ and Collectable Cars Museum, a 12 month subscription to the Fairfax magazine of her choice and two premium tickets to the 2007 Montana WOW® Awards in Wellington next September.

Designers Wendy Burton and Patrick Duffy win $500, as well as two Premium tickets to the 2005 Montana WOW® Awards, while the models who wore the garment, Elliot Chapman and Candice Warren, each win a weekend for two at the luxury B&B, Bellbird Lodge at Kaiteriteri.

‘Blow Me’ is inspired by the wild Wellington wind and depicts two figures battling against the wind, with their clothes, hair and even their shoelaces battling the gale. One character clutches The Dominion Post as it flies out of her hands while the other struggles with an upturned umbrella.

Competition Director Heather Palmer says that “It was no surprise that the innovative ‘Blow Me’ won The Dominion Post People’s Choice Award. After all, it had all the elements of a truly fantastic WOW entry – it had humour, showed technical skill and of course appealed to the people!”
