Entries Selected for 2006 Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show

168 creations have been selected to be part of the 2006 Montana World of WearableArt™ (WOW®) Awards Show in Wellington in September, including a large contingent of international entries.

Fashion designer, Doris de Pont and sculptor Virginia King joined WOW® creator, Suzie Moncrieff in Nelson, the birthplace of WOW®, to spend the weekend viewing modelled entries from all over the world.

WOW’s Guest Judge for 2006 is renowned New Zealand film maker, Gaylene Preston NZOM, who will join the Judging panel in Wellington in September for the final placings.

This year’s shows will feature a raft of entries from both past and new designers from as far afield as India, Thailand, Germany, Canada, Japan, the UK and Australia. Each garment will now be individually choreographed into a seamless two hour theatrical production.

There are seven sections in the 2006 Montana WOW® Awards. They are HPChildren’s, Scenic Circle Hotels Bizarre Bra®, Tourism New Zealand Avant Garde, Air New Zealand South Pacific, AT & T Illumination Illusion®, American Express Open, and the CentrePort Shape It section.

Each section has NZ$8,000 in prize money over three placings, with the exception of Bizarre Bra which has $4,500, while the Supreme Award winner receives NZ$10,000, as well a NZ$10,000 American Express international travel prize and a trophy created by internationally renowned Hoglund Art Glass, valued at approximately NZ$2000. There are also a number of special award categories.

The Montana WOW® Awards showcase over seven nights at the Events Centre in Wellington on September 21, 22, 23, 24 & 29, 30 as well as October 1. There are still some limited seats available.
