Wanganui Student wins Inaugural WOW® T-shirt Competition

A Wanganui Fashion student who has never attended a Montana WOW® Awards show, has won the inaugural Design a T-shirt competition for the iconic event in Nelson later this year.

47 year old Anne Thompson from Wanganui’s UCOL was one of 34 tertiary students around the country to enter the competition to design a T-shirt which encapsulates the spirit of WearableArt.

WOW® launched the competition to develop creativity and commercial awareness in emerging designers.

Anne’s T-shirt on a black background features the silhouette of a vibrant female figure. clothed in flaming feathers.

WOW® Creator and Judge, Suzie Moncrieff, says the design captured the creativity, movement and life of WOW®. “I liked the feeling of fire behind the (Awards) logo, which gives it a real sense of energy”

Anne Thompson says she’s overwhelmed by the win and couldn’t believe she had done so well. “Although I have never seen a live show, I have followed it on TV over the years, and had a sense of its vibrancy and creativity” Anne says.

As part of her prize, Anne receives two tickets to the 2004 Montana WOW® Awards in Nelson in September, as well as $1000 cash. “Although the concept for the T-shirt was in my head, it was my 16 year old daughter who had the skills to create the computer generated image – so it’s probably fitting that I take her to the show” Anne says.

Anne’s design will feature on a select run of collectable T-shirts, which will become part of the WOW® merchandising range. They will be on sale at the Awards shows and from WOW & Collectable Cars in Nelson.

It is hoped the T-shirt competition will become an annual event.
