Designer Newsletter December 2006

Dear Designers,

Festive greetings to you all! With the year wrapping up and 2007 fast approaching WOW® would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The 2006 Montana WOW® Awards Show was another successful show and WOW was delighted with the high calibre of entries. Congratulations to all WOW designers who took away awards, in particular Rodney Leong, who won the Montana Supreme WOW® Award with his creation, ‘The Love of Icarus’.

The Dominion Post People’s Choice Award

The Dominion Post People’s Choice Award was announced after the Awards Show season finished on October 1st 2006. Congratulations to Wendy Burton and Patrick Duffy, who won the Award with their garment ‘Blow Me’.

The garment, which depicts a man and a woman struggling against a gusting Wellington wind was a collaborative effort between mask maker Patrick Duffy and WOW aficionado Wendy Burton. “At first you relate Blow Me to the Wellington wind but on closer inspection the newspaper blowing onto the characters is reporting that they have been completely blown away by WOW. The female character is pictured with the headlines - the news is so hot off the press its blowing right at them”.

2007 Entry Kits

By now you should have all received your 2007 Entry Kit and be thinking about your entry for next year’s show. We have a number of great new sections and old classics as well. New sections include:

• Scenic Circle Hotels Man Unleashed Section
• CentrePort Shades of White Section
• Please note that the Bizarre Bra Section and the Shape It section will be rested in 2007.

For more information please refer to your Entry Kit or the WOW website www.worldofwearableart.com. If you haven’t received an Entry Kit, please contact Heather Palmer - WOW Competition Director on heather@worldofwearableart.com

International Designers

WOW would like to take this opportunity to thank all international designers for entering the 2006 Montana WOW® Awards Show. The increasing international entries challenges all WOW designers to innovate

International designers will be sent out Entry Kits this week, along with a special International Insert that provides detailed information for overseas entrants.

WOW and Classic Car Museum

The WOW and Classic Car museum now features a new gallery change showcasing a selection of the winning garments and finalists from the 2006 show. If you are visiting Nelson, please pop in and take a look.

Retail Opportunity at WOW & Classic Car Museum, Nelson

There is a great opportunity for designers to sell their work through the WOW & Collectable Car Museum in Nelson. This wonderful facility is open 364 days a year and attracts around 60,000 visitors annually. Anyone who would like to take advantage of this high traffic/high visibility opportunity can contact Heather Palmer at WOW. Please send either a photo or sample of your work for consideration.

That’s it from a very tired but satisfied WOW team. It has been a massive but exciting year – roll on 2007!!!!

We trust that you and your families have a great Christmas and New Year and that you find some creative time to consider your entry for the 2007 Awards!

Please don’t hesitate to contact Heather with any queries – heather@worldofwearablart.com or phone 03 547 0861.
